Exhibition project.

Yesterday was Mr Peck & my 2 year anniversary!

And in other news, I did get a request for a post on my art project so I'm going to share what I'm doing for my end of year exhibition.

It's still in very early stages yet, but essentially what I'm doing is making a knitted environment. The idea behind it is escaping from reality into a soft, almost womb like structure. So far I have built the structure and started knitting bits and pieces... below are some pictures and sketches for you to have a look at.

I bought myself an I-cord machine and am waiting and waiting for it to arrive because as you first enter (through the hole, which will be strung with elastic so you have to squeeze through it) there will be heaps of i-cord hung from the ceiling and you will have to make your way through it, pushing it aside as you go.

After you get through that, you will come to an open space filled with... I'm not sure yet.. You'll have to stay tuned! Any ideas?

Seeing as the exhibition will be during summer, I am planning to have a small fan going which will create some air and movement. I am also planning on having some interesting lighting and some soft sounds.

I'l keep you updated as I make progress!

Look at Me

Hi,
Haven't been around for a while... mainly because I have been feeling lazy.. and partly because I have been doing other things, like college work!

Here's what I wore the other day...

And here's what I've been slowly working on... I might do a separate post to show you what it means, if you're interested? Are you? It's for my exhibition at the end of the year.... but really it's only about 2 months away now. Oh, and I made those knitting needles :)

Sleep deprivation...?

My feature posts are all out of whack and on different days and that pretty much reflects my head right now! I am all over the place. Not much sleep and excessive amounts of stress and work does that to a person.

So today I am feeling really crafty and I was all ready to get some craft on when reality struck and I realised that I actually have just as many assignments to do this week as last, even though they were due this week. And the reason? I managed to wrangle myself some extensions. That doesn't mean I can slack off though, just means I actually have to do them this time!

But to satisfy my crafting urge I'm just going to share a few pictures and various things so make this an eclectic and almost crafty post.

First up:

This is a painting I starting and finished yesterday to help out Mr Peck. He had to film an advertisement for College and needed someone to represent the art department and get arty. That was me! Yay... His ad could get selected for actual use by College so here's hoping..

The other reason I did this painting was for my painting and drawing class which is something that was due this week... and which I got an extension for. It is representative of water and a rock pool and that sort of thing...

Next up:

I found this tutorial and it looks fun. So on that far away day when I finish my assignments (it's not actually too far away, only about 2 weeks at most.. it just feeeeels like forever!) I might give it a wazz... Because let's face it, you can never have enough bags, and this one is just so cute, even though it's labelled as a Poopy clutch it could be so much more!

And then:

Right now, the weather is downright depressing so here's a cheerful photo and colour palette to enjoy.

And finally:

Here's a little bit of writing for you. Care of me. It's pretty random. I wrote it to Mr Peck. I know it's strange but it was 2am and I was super tired and sleep deprived.

So on this glooomy day where all I want to do is craft, but my list of To Dos is epic, you can help cheer me up by sending some lovely comments my way! ♥

I'm baaaack

Hello-eeee!

I am finally back! 3 out of 7 assignments are done and dusted and I now have a little bit of down time before the next lot are due... but I still have work to do so regular posts are still off for the moment as I'm not sure how much spare time I will find to post.

I am having a Monday moment and look very similar to this -

Current mood: Grumpy
Current temperature: warm, with cold feet
Current state of stomach: empty
Current face: smudged with mascara from last night
Reason: I know, I know - it's really bad to sleep with your makeup on but in my defense I kinda forgot I was wearing any aaand I fell into bed last night already asleep (well, almost)
Current thoughts: I have to do a lot today.. I wish I had more followers, am I not interesting enough? How do I get more followers? Argh screw it. I have so much to do today.
Current occupation: Wasting time, thinking about how much I have to do today.
Current annoyance: I am waiting for boots to arrive which I ordered from Windsor & Smith. I ordered them 2 weeks ago. I can't wait any longer!! Just get here already! They look like this -

Working...

At the moment I'm feeling a little snowed under.
It's now the month of Mad May where everything is due at once and it's just a hectic crazy time of the year.

I have a To Do list the size of both my arms outstretched (which is pretty big coz I'm like an orangutan or something) and as yet I haven't crossed anything off.

I have Flashbox work and College work and it's so confusing which one is more important .. on the one hand I have clients who are expecting results and the other lecturers and my own education to think about.
Decisions Decisions!

Today I have decided to work on my Essay which is due in a week. Remember that one I wanted to hand in on my shirt? Yup.. still going on that!

So here's to a day full of work and work.

[edit] I just found this lovely quote to give a more positive spin - and yes, I was distracted already by Pinterest.... shame

Monday

so the phone just rang, and i was in the middle of checking out some of my favourite blogs. I left it a little late and had to leap off the chair, run out to the lounge room and pick it up. In the process, i bashed straight into the wardrobe which is situated just inside the door. i literally bounced off it, picked up the phone, only to find someone asking for {insert mumble here}. I said, this is Jasmine. "I think I have the wrong number". Yup, Yup you do. And don't call again, or i will have to charge you with my doctor/masseuse bill. That's all. End of story.
PS I didn't actually say the last bit, I only thought it...

Today I had painting & drawing. It used to be the class I dreaded, now I actually quite like getting out into the sunshine and observing nature.

We went to the beach and I found myself a nice spot perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean.

putting them side by side makes mine look real bad... and the pencil doesn't come up that great.... but... yeah... ok, now I don't really want to post this haha.

Here's a picture of my spunktastic husband at work, to make me feel better...

oil + water

Today I continued my oil painting which I started last week.
I worked on the water.

I must say I am really liking oil paint! I was a little scared of it, having never done it before.. But I love the way you can move it with your brush and mix colours so easily and add texture and... oh all sorts of things!
And I really like being outside with my easel and some paint and just observing how light changes so quickly.. amazing!

Here's a sneaky peaky.. It's not done yet - still have to add the jetty in the foreground.

And talking of water.. I just found this radilicious (no.. that's not really a word) shower thingy.. teehee.. so fun!

From Uncommon Goods (which looks like a whole lot of fun [and a place where I'm sure I'll waste a good deal of time browsing] just quietly!!)

computer strike

Well I haven't been around for a little coz I'm on a computer strike.
I wanted to cut back on the hours of useless time wasting that's been happening and try and get some work done  and focus on the real world for a bit... Which has actually been going alright, but I feel like I haven't really gotten anything more than usual done.

Problem is, I kinda need my computer for work - being a graphic designer and all...
So today there's no avoiding it... It's photo editing time.

Oh, and guesssss whatttt!?
I finally managed to crochet something!! It's not finished yet. And there are a few little mistakes in it... But it's actually working and it's really not that difficult! I am totally surprised and pleased at how quick it is and how easy!

And, I am doing a college project that uses knitting... and a lot of it at that. Which is exciting but top secret and even my lecturer won't know about it until it happens! So excited... but means I will be doing A LOT of knitting! Will post a few pics as I go.

scrabble!

Well, today was the first day of classes for a brand new year of college...
I had one class! It was Christian studies. I go to a Christian college and so it's a core course.
Seems alright so far!

We also went to the opening welcome thingy for all the new and returning students and the main speech was about having a go. The college president told us about how he was watching a cricket game between Zimbabwe and Canada and the Canadians we getting thrashed but weren't fighting back. He said that if it had been an Australian crown watching they would have yelled "Have a go ya mug".. And so he said this year at college, have a go.

So the things I want to have a go at this year are:
  • Being friendly & making an effort to make friends.
I'm really bad at this. I usually wait for people to talk to me and when they don't, I get upset that I can't make friends and no body likes me. Either that or I make up stories in my head about how they aren't very nice people. (They probably think that about me too)Which is really lame. And I don't like that about myself..
  • Join a basketball team
The thought of this scares me just a little.. mainly coz I'm not super good at basketball!! But I think this will help with making friends and also with the whole fitness thing.. .
So those are my aims for this year of college.

On another note, Mr Peck & I played Scrabble last night and I would like to announce that I, for the first time in my Scrabble playing career, played a 7 (that's right SEVEN) letter word! I captured this most auspicious and astounding moment on camera.

And also a matter of great excitement - we stopped off at an Op shop on the way home out of randomness and found the bestest table for only $45! So excited!! We have been on the look out for office furniture and right inside the door was sitting this beauty. A scratch of sandpaper and a lick of paint and it will be so so amazing! Will post photos when it gets here!

home icecream + 9 handmade plates

Today was rego day for college.
I got to talk to my lecturers and decide what I'm doing.. Which before now, I wasn't really sure of. I was just there, studying.. Doing something... And now, well.. I'm doing a Masters!! Ok.. scary! That means I have to write a whole lot of stuff about art, specifically my art and how my process is different to everyone else's and then I get to actually make some of that art... Oh, and did I mention that I have to write a whole lot of stuff?
Yep, got that? Awesome.

So the thing is, I'm not real great on writing. Practical sure, go for it.. Love it. Good at it.. But writing!? You probably get that from reading my posts - my brain is not completely organised and when I write it comes out in one big jumble. A bit of this thought, a bit of that thought, throw in some commas and a few full stops (and possibly some ellipses) and done like a dinner. But I have a feeling that thesis writing is gunna be a little bit of a step up from that.. So .. (AHHHHH) <-- that was a muffled scream into a pillow in case you missed that.

So, after that miniature freak out moment, I got to pick up the plates I made last year in ceramics (which I hadn't seen 'cooked' yet) and boy am I pleased!! So excited by how they turned out! Love Love Love them..
None cracked, and the glazing looks really nice. The first one of the 2 people is the first one I used this glazing on and the pink in the girls dress disappeared so I made sure with the rest of them that I put lots of glazing into the grooves...

PS. It's the beginning on Autumn today. Sad moment. But a little bit happy too... Because I like scarves and cardigans. This summer didn't really seem to ever hit (apart for one week of 40 degree heat) so that makes today a little bit sad. But at least today is a scorcher - around 36 apparently. Which is why we got Home Icecream :) Love that stuff! hehe

PPS. Autumn also means that I have a birthday in 6 days.

lino prints

As promised, here are some pics of my lino prints.
I handed them in today, (so these aren't pics of the original but cast-offs so they aren't perfect) went really well!
My lecturers really liked them and didn't have any negative comments, only positive :) so that's encouraging!

my first one

this one took me 2 days to cut...

so did this one...

this one was super quick and probably my least favourite...

all in a row!

I'm in the process of making celebratory cupcakes! I've finished for the year!!! yayayayayayyayay!!!

They are strawberry vanilla mix...
better go put the icing on so I can eat them :)

B'gerk

Sorry for the lack of posting. I'm almost done with college and promise I will be back after tomorrow!! My last assignment is due then yipeeee..

Today I printed my linos.. .and it was a little frustrating coz they all smudged and no matter what adjustment I made to the printing press, whether more pressure or less, helped... I think it may have something to do with the paper?? Coz it's super absorbent so maybe it absorbs the ink and thus doesn't stick to the lino and moves as it rolls.. I don't know.. but they are done and I am relatively happy. Will post pics tomorrow after they get assessed...

So that's my last assignment.. and I am happy :)
All my plates are done too.. haven't seen them glazed yet but fingers crossed they came out ok coz all the glaze was dried out and Tony (lecturer) told me just to scoop it into the spray gun and mix some water in with it but I think I added too much water as it was runny as and came out too fast/much... so I'm not sure if they will be as nice as I'd hoped.. But Tony said that he was really happy with what I've done and thinks that with a bit more refinement they will be really marketable.. so that's good news :) means I might have something to sell at markets! I just need a kiln! hehe

Um..
well, that's about it.. sorry for the talking and no pics - I don't have any yet :( But I will try and get some for tomorrow..

better day...

Yay... yay.. and YAY.

Thankfully today was sooooOoOOoo much better than yesterday.
Could it have to do with the fact that last night I caught up on reading the Lesson for the week (which I've missed this week due to crazy busyness) and this morning gave this day to God and asked Him to do with it what He wanted.... Most likely! :)

I handed in my review and gave a presentation on my book, which went well.
Then I was going to go to the ceramics shed and do some work only to find it was shut but as I was walking away my lecturer (who is never around when you need him and always there when you don't) drove up and opened the shed for me. So I got to work on my plates... My first glazed one cracked in the kiln which was a little disappointing but it still looks cool,.. so now I'm excited about glazing the rest.. I glazed 2 today and the rest need to be fired the first time still.

Here's a look at the cracked one...

P.S. my thumb keeps twitching....
